Valve Manifold before.... This was a previous repair. The backflow perventer and shut off were left out. One zone was never reconnected.
Valve Manifold reconfigured...Backflow preventer and shutoff added and new Hunter PGV valves installed.This is how a manifold looks before you cover it with a valve box and dirt. 
Is is a common problem every year. Lightning hits a tree in the yard then travels through the irrigation system.
In this picture you see where the energy ran from the tree and entered the irrigation trench line. 
After traveling through the wires and trench line this is where it stopped, the timer.
Notice the golf clubs in the caddy. They were damaged by the fire that was blown from the timer. Not only did it destroy the clubs but it caused smoke damage to the rest of the garage. Ths customer was blessed on this one. It only cost around $800.00 for this one to be fixed. A twenty foot section of wire, one solenoid and the timer was all that was damaged. It could have been worse, costing as much as a new system would cost. Insuranse takes care of this type of damage. Thank God. One way to prevent an inside fire is to put the timer on the outside. I prefer to put it on a brick wall. The irrigation system might get blown apart but with the timer out of the house a fire can be provented. Just think if a gas can had been under the timer when this happened. When you have a system installed , no matter who does it, have them install the timer on the outside of the house. It can be installed on a post or preferably a brick wall.
